You will get most of the varieties of mango to eat here. There are many such villages in Banka where you will get to see huge mango orchards. One of those villages is Mahota village located in Amarpur block of Banka district. There is no surprise if it is called Mango Orchard Village of Banka. In 500 acres of this village you will see only mango orchards. Dozens of varieties of mangoes are available in these mango orchards. From here, mangoes are supplied to Bihar, Jharkhand and Bengal. The farmers here are earning lakhs from mango gardening.

Farmer Mrityunjay Sharma says that mango gardening has been done in this village since the time of Zamindari. The area under mango plantation is increasing year after year. Every year, the process of planting hundreds of mango saplings of different varieties continues. The farmers here cultivate only seasonal crops along with mango gardening. Due to this, the farmers of the village get double income. There are so many mango trees in Mahota village that people have started calling this village the mango village. The quality of mangoes from this village is better, hence the demand is also tremendous. Farmer Mrityunjay Sharma told that in every garden here you will find varieties of mangoes including Malda, Faizli, Amrapali, Sukul, Mumbaiya, Jardalu, Chausa, Bharat Bhog, Gulab Khas and others. At the same time, here you will get mangoes even during Navratri.

Farmer Shambhu Sharma says that the tradition of mango gardening has been going on from his ancestors. The present generation is also working to carry forward the same tradition. This is the reason why most of the farmers in this village are interested in mango gardening. As soon as the mango tree starts blooming, the price of all the gardens starts rising. Traders take gardens on lease from farmers by paying better prices. If the weather does not affect the farmer as well as the businessman, he gets a good amount of savings. He told that the quality of mangoes here is also different. Due to sandy soil, mango plant is easily planted. The specialty of the mangoes here is that the skin is very thin. People eat it with great enthusiasm. During mango season, huge quantities are supplied from here to big cities like Kolkata, Muzaffarpur, Patna, Godda, Deoghar. 8 to 10 trucks leave from here daily in normal season. With this income the farmers here can live comfortably.
